Bioshock Remastered

This port / remaster is so bad it makes me weep for the future of game preservation. The original PC release of Bioshock was horrendous all on its own, with strange glitches and bugs, some that made the game just short of unplayable – and it was never patched, just released and abandoned. And with newer versions of Windows coming out, the game literally stopped working.

So when this remaster was released almost 10 years later, I think everyone was pretty hyped about the potential of a playable version of Bioshock on PC. And really, how difficult could it be to accomplish such a thing? I am not game dev, but whatever the fuck this is seems like intentional sabotage.

The biggest issue with the original Bioshock on PC, aside from it not really working on Windows 10 and on, was the forced mouse acceleration, and extremely narrow FOV. Just those two things needed to be dealt with for this “remaster” to be good enough. Really. Instead, what we got was this steaming pile of shit featuring:

  • “Improved graphics”
  • “high fidelity textures”
  • “unlocked frame rate”
  • and other empty buzzwords.

How they have managed to introduce new bugs I just don’t understand. Sure – We can play at 999 fps now, but why would I want to? My graphics card is screaming at me the whole time. Those new lights they added to show off their improved textures do a fine job killing the game’s ambiance and atmosphere, not to mention they stand out from the environment like a wart on a baby’s face. And why is it that the AI has somehow gotten even dumber? They’ll just stand there, on fire, taking shots to the face – they used to actually react to damage. Try to extinguish themselves, or take cover. And, they didn’t even fix the damn mouse acceleration.

I dunno, fam. If the original worked, I’d just play that. I really don’t want to play this. It pains me. But aside from buying an Xbox 360, what other choice is there?
